Operations Manager
Meet Chris Farrar, our Operations Manager! Chris grew up in Austin, TX and studied outdoor resource management at Texas State University. Through college, he worked at summer camp, then transitioned to working full-time at camps and ski resorts for a decade. Chris then moved to St. Louis and found a role with Go Ape managing the course in Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park. In 2020, Chris moved into a regional manager role and then was promoted to operations manager in 2024, supporting health and safety efforts at all locations!
Getting to Know You
I was attracted by the opportunity to work outdoors, with like-minded people. Adventurous folk, that take their job seriously, but not themselves. My role has changed over the years, but the people I work with everyday keep me here.
In my current role, I pretty rarely get up on the course. At most it’s about once a month these days.
Your Go Ape Story
Rescue recertifications in 2019. It was cold, windy, and wet. It should have sucked, but we had the time of our lives out there. The people you’re with on those days REALLY matter.
Every time I step off a zip platform, I still triple-check my harness after all these years. And climbing up zip 5 (the longest zipline) always kicks my butt.
It doesn’t happen often, but I’ve gotten a few hugs when a guest I trained completes the course. That’s when I know we did a good job.
The Personal Side
I keep it fairly tame. You’ll find me walking/running/biking in Forest Park in St. Louis, MO.
I don’t rock climb (gasp!), but for other adventures (biking, hiking, canoeing), I’m usually asking Spotify for Lumineers radio or something similar.
There’s an Aussie bloke I follow on YouTube named Beau Miles. He has a book about adventures in your own backyard. He has an ability to look at the world with fresh and eager eyes, or at least he uses that lens more often then the rest of us. I’d love to chat to him in the trees and see what comes out of his brain.
Go Ape Philosophy
It always comes back to the people. It’s an opportunity to make or deepen connections in a unique way. Save the happy hours, dinner-and-a-movie dates, and coffee shop hangs for the bad weather days. Get out in the trees and learn what makes each other really tick!
We have a generous refund policy if you decide it’s not for you. And we have an excellent safety record. What do you have to lose? You could just find yourself out there.
