Meet Johnny Felty, Regional Health & Safety Manager at Go Ape, Petzl PPE-Certified Competitent Person, M.S. ITAM. Johnny has been with Go Ape for nearly two years and – though he loves his job would do it outside of Go Ape’s operational hours, outside of work – he loves cats, skiing, bowling, and competitive gaming. A true jack of all trades, Johnny is always ready to help, whether that’s in the cabin, in the trees, at events, or really anywhere he can lend a hand!
Getting to Know Johnny
“The opportunity to lead a team and provide an amazing experience for people in my community drew me in, and the culture and people involved in the company have kept me here.“
“How much time I’ve spent 50 feet above the ground!“
Johnny’s Go Ape Story
“There’s a lot, but the top choice right now goes back to our company retreat – the Go Ape Summit – in 2025. Getting to meet and work with people from all around the country was an awesome opportunity and made the connections I’ve built with my coworkers even stronger.“
“Sometimes even the simplest crossings make me nervous! Walking the tight rope on an 11mm wire and looking down 40+ feet could probably make anyone a little shaky, but I always remember that I am attached to a safety system, and I trust my equipment. “
“Seeing youth guests build confidence as they trek through the trees is always great to see. They might start to express those fears when their climbing the first ladder, but with a bit of encouragement and coaching from their supervisors and our staff, they’re flying through with no fear at the end of the course. “
The Personal Side
“Usually bowling or skiing! “
“Most of my playlists are filled with songs from musicals!“
“He might be fictional, but I would definitely love to see Ted Lasso go through a course! I wonder what kind of quips he’ll be spitting out when he’s 50 feet in the air! “
Go Ape Philosophy
“Every time you get up in the trees, it’s memorable. There’s nothing forgettable about climbing through our courses, but life on the ground sure is. Get up, get active, and get excited – the trees are calling! “
“If you’re nervous, you can always just try learning the ropes through the safety brief and testing the waters at Site 1! Site 1 is just a few feet off the ground to get you used to the equipment and what to expect. If our encouragement and training haven’t made you comfortable by the time you go down the zipline, you can always choose not to continue!“
