Bridging Communities and Conquering Fears: A Heartfelt Day with Hank’s Friends at Go Ape Plano

At Go Ape, we believe in the power of adventure – not just for the thrill, but for the way it brings people together, builds confidence, and creates space for real connection. On Saturday, May 3, our Plano, TX location had the absolute honor of partnering with Hank’s Friends, a local nonprofit that supports individuals with special needs and their families.

What unfolded was more than just a networking event. It was a vibrant, emotional, and inspiring day that reminded all of us why we do what we do.

Building a More Inclusive Canopy

Hank’s Friends exists to bridge the gap between the special needs community and the businesses that are ready to serve them. At Go Ape, that mission fits right in with ours: to inspire courage, connection, and discovery through outdoor adventure.

Families, local businesses, and community members joined us for a day filled with yard games, meaningful conversations, and treetop fun. For many participants – especially those new to rope courses or ziplining – it was a chance to try something new in a space where they felt safe, seen, and supported.

Our trained team was there every step of the way, offering encouragement, guidance, and adaptability to ensure everyone had the opportunity to participate at their own pace.

Fear-Facing and Fun: A Day to Remember

Some of the most powerful moments happened up in the trees. We saw individuals conquer fears, parents cheer on their kids, and new friendships form on platforms 30 feet high. It was a powerful reminder of what makes adventure meaningful: not the obstacles themselves, but the bravery it takes to overcome them and the community that rallies around you when you try.

Creating Space for All Explorers

This day was a model for the kind of transformational experiences we aim to offer at all Go Ape locations. From tailored support to inclusive outdoor experiences, we’re continuing to expand what it means to “go ape” for everyone, no matter your background, age, or ability.
